Project Description:

The Lowcountry Land Trust is requesting $106,500 in rural Greenbelt funds towards the bargain sale purchase of a conservation easement on 10.76 acres located off Hut Road on Johns Island. The conservation of this property will preserve relatively natural habitat, including forested wetlands associated with the headwaters of Hut Creek. The property is currently used for residential, low-scale agricultural purposes and wildlife management, with recreational activities such as hunting being conducted. In addition, the easement will preserve land within the Hut Road Gullah Geechee Settlement Community, safeguarding its historical and cultural significance.
