Dungannon-Hanahan
Project Description:
Open Space Institute Land Trust (OSILT) is requesting $3,072,300 in Rural Greenbelt funds for the fee-simple acquisition of 608 acres located off Salters Hill Road and Hwy 162 in Hollywood. Once the property is acquired, the SC Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) will go through administrative approvals and due diligence to acquire the property from OSILT and expand the existing Dungannon WMA/ Heritage Preserve. The property is undeveloped forest land with 378 acres of upland mixed pine hardwood forest and pine flatwoods, sloping down to 230 acres of freshwater forested wetland. Depending on SCDNR Heritage Preserve needs, potential improvements may include a boardwalk or observation area near the reserve pond, as well as trail upgrades, informational kiosks, and picnic shelters.
